Windows Live Mail to Outlook

Windows Live Mail is available for free for users of Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. In this tutorial, you will learn how to find the Windows Live Mail emails, import Live Mail emails into Outlook and create the copy of the file system folders structure inside Outlook.

You can import EML files from Outlook Express, Windows Mail, and Windows Live to:

Windows Live Mail to Outlook Import

Windows Live Mail stores all emails inside the special Application Data folder so you can use it as a source to process importing. But it is always good idea to make a backup copy of your data prior to start the processing.

Default folder for Windows Mail emails storage is:

%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\

Step1: Find Where the Windows Live Mail Stores Emails.

• You may simply run the Windows File Explorer (Windows Key+E combination), type in the default location string mentioned above and press enter. It will open the storage directory and the exact folder patch will be shown. Select and copy the folder path and use it to specify the source location of email files for EML to PST Converter.
• You may use the Windows Live Mail settings to see where your emails are stored:5. The “Maintenance” dialog box appears. Click the “Store Folder” button.1. Run the Windows Live Mail and click the menu button or press Alt+M combination.
  
  2. Select “Options”. The “Options” window will be shown.
  3. Select the “Advanced” tab.
  4. Click the “Maintenance” button underneath “Maintenance and Troubleshooting”.
  5. Click the “Store Folder” button in the “Maintenance” dialog box.
  
  6. Click the “Change” button in the “Store Location” dialog box.
  This will show you exact path to the emails storage folder.

  HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\Store Root

Step2: Import Windows Live Mail Emails into Outlook

1. Download install and run EML to PST Converter.
2. Select Destination to import emails.
   * – you may select option to import emails into default Outlook user profile, or choose an option to import emails into existing PST file or to create the new PST file and import emails into it…
3. Press Next button and select the source folder where your Windows Live emails are stored.
   * – it is recommended to enable the recursive options and option to find hidden files.
4. Press Options button if you need to configure email filters and other options.
5. Press Next button.
   * – the program will find all emails files in the selected folder and it’s subfolders and display all found files and pathes. You may enable or disable some files to be imported or not.
6. Go next and the program will import emails into selected destination.
7. You may inspect processing and error logs.

The procedure of Windows Mail to Outlook importing is done. You may open the Microsoft Outlook and inspect imported emails. Feel free to drag items to desired locations and reorganize them, now they are not connected to Windows Live mail but related to Outlook.
